Turns out my Mayoral has a busted battery compartment but it looks nice so I'll keep it.
Chinon 255XL and Halina....is it worth buying one of these cameras cheaply?

Are those your only choices? I would try eBay and look for cameras with names like, Nizo, Nikon, and Canon.

Unfortunately people on eBay.com in the U.S. don't like shipping cameras outside the states so I have to use eBay.co.uk where the selection is one page and the only two nizo, nikon, canon cameras are priced at over ?300 at the moment.
So really I have a very limited choice.

You can buy my Nikon 8X Super Zoom with key lamp on top, I'm tired of messing with it. It works, but call me and I'll tell you how, I'm in the UK, CHEAP

Just try www.ebay.de, translate pages using altavista translator.
There are a lot of cheap cameras like Bauer, Canon (from 1 Euro to 500 Euro) etc. I have bought about 20 cameras from ebay.de and there haven't been any problems them to ship from Germany to Finland, so I think same with UK.
I have bought (from ebay.de) for example one Bauer Royal 10 E Makro that costed me 9 Euro!
That one have great features like: single frame, 12, 18, 24 and 54 fps, time lapse, time exposure, reverse (you can even shoot in reverse mode!), 7-70mm Neovaron lens, variable shutter etc.
